THE ARTIST’S HOUSE – Painting Holidays

The English Riviera painting courses at The Artist’s House focus on the sharing of skills and techniques so you can advance your artistic skills significantly at whatever level you are, beginner or advanced. Emma is an experienced teacher and has taught all abilities from complete beginners, professionals at BMW to school children, to amateurs, to art societies and art professionals wishing to develop their practice.

Each lesson is tailored to suit your needs but Emma covers all the basics including the importance of a good studio set up to help you get the most of your painting (could be just a table), getting to know your materials to help you feel confident in your application of paint, colour theory with a little art history for reference, composition, expression, exploration, use brushes and palette knives and whatever you like to work with. the course teaches you to embrace YOUR creativity whilst been expertly and gently guided.

By the end of the day you’ll have at least one piece you are proud of and by the end of the week on longer courses you’ll have many pieces you are keen to share and take home and much more confidence in your artistic skills. Many of Emma’s students return and find that they have a renewed vigour for art.

COURSES

Individual tuition – English Riviera

Small group residential (max 5) – English Riviera

Non residential courses – English Riviera and Burgh Island Hotel 

Each course is adapted to the students.  

The experience of being at the home studio is also about being in a beautiful place on the English Riviera with the sea 5 minutes down the road, great healthy food, good company, fantastic locations, the moors, the rivers and a relaxed and friendly home and garden environment and new for 2024 a unique mobile and studio and gallery to paint on location on the longer residential courses. 

We have two friendly loving dogs Bella and Cash, our springer labradors, and now have 2 adorable cats too…..

We are happy to cater for normal, vegan, gluten free and vegetarian diets, we love food and love to cook healthy nutritious food .

Dietary needs are discussed in advance.

Non Residential Art Courses

Non residential courses run all year-round with each season providing its own unique atmosphere. The longer summer courses tend to be outside based in good warmer weather meaning some courses make use of fantastic locations nearby or use of the studio if the weather is inclement.

Group painting sessions are £250 each for a 2 day course all materials and lunch provided.

Residential Art Courses

Individual residential courses run all year round, just contact Emma to enquire about dates to suit you and gift vouchers are available to gift for a special present for someone wanting to further their painting skills and have a gorgeous relaxed art holiday in beautiful Devon.

Residential group courses are based in May and September in 2024. We only have 2 courses available. They are small, unique, homely with a maximum 5 people.

We have two beautiful double luxury rooms with a private bathroom in a big period house 5 mins from the beach, local shops and transport.

Prices include breakfast and lunch everyday, a welcome dinner and an artist last night dinner, allowing you to make use of the lovely local excellent restaurants and eateries on the English Riviera. 

Being on the English Riviera also allows you to enjoy the theatres, gardens, shops, castles, boat trips, galleries, markets, marinas, steam trains and places of interest from the moors to the sea, historic market towns, beauty spots, national hertiage sites, beach and riverwalks are all closeby to explore and inspire.

We try to balance residential courses to allow you time to enjoy the area and relax on your holiday how you wish.

Based on single occupancy in one of only two private beautiful double rooms in The Artist’s House with only 3 other guests at most, use of own little kitchen too.

Prices include tuition, breakfast, lunch, teas, coffees and materials in a beautiful double room with 2 artist’s dinners.

Double occupancy £850 each (non painting partner £650)
