Workshops

Emma offers a year‑round programme of immersive art experiences and retreats, creating spaces where people come together to share, connect and create as part of a growing artistic community. These experiences take place in her home studio Blue Haze in Paignton, at The Boathouse in Preston, The Mercure Hotel in Paignton, on Burgh Island, Dartmoor and in carefully chosen locations that naturally support reflection, expression and creative flow.

Rather than focusing solely on formal teaching, (although the fine art technicalities are taught), Emma’s approach is rooted in shared experience and lived practice. Drawing on over 30 years as a contemporary British painter, she invites participants into the ways of seeing, feeling and working that have shaped her own creative life.

Each experience is an opportunity to explore creativity as something relational – built through conversation, presence, experimentation and mutual encouragement – forming strong, supportive art communities and loyal collectors where people feel seen and inspired.

Emma also brings this experience‑based, community‑centred approach into bespoke sessions for schools, colleges, organisations and businesses, using creativity as a way to foster connection, wellbeing and authentic expression within groups from schools to corporate environments like BMW Academy in Munich, helping teams to access creativity to perform, inspire and communicate more effectively and in a healthy way.

At the heart of all Emma’s work is the belief that art is deeply human, restorative and transformative. Her immersive art experiences and retreats are designed not only to develop creative confidence, but to nourish wellbeing, encourage mindfulness and create meaningful connections – between people, place and creative expression. Through sharing her decades of practice, Emma offers participants a chance to slow down, reconnect and experience art as a way of living, not just making.

Her 30 years of experience has led her to speak at a world congress in Berlin, to help set up numerous creative practices and wellbeing art events, always with true expression and wellbeing at the core.

ART RETREAT

REWILDING THE ARTIST DARTMOOR

THE ARTIST WAY

27 & 28th JUNE 2026

£295

Step away from the noise of everyday life and into a deeply nourishing creative retreat on Dartmoor, led by artist Emma Carter Bromfield.

Set on a secluded private smallholding just outside Ashburton (near Poundsgate), this beautiful location is surrounded by traditional Mongolian yurts, wildflowers, lakes and ancient woodland, and lies just a short walk from Mel Tor – one of Dartmoor’s most breathtaking viewpoints. It is a place to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with your creative self.

Over two days, you are invited to re-wild your creativity – to walk, wander, paint, write, read, reflect, sing, swim, rest and explore at your own pace. This is not about performance or pressure, but about rediscovering creativity as something natural, instinctive and deeply human.

Emma will gently guide you as you begin The Artist’s Way—the renowned creative journey by Julia Cameron, often described as one of the most profound creative processes available. Drawing on over 30 years of lived creative practice, Emma will share the tools, insights and ways of being that have shaped her own life as an artist.

This retreat marks the beginning of a 12‑week Artist’s Way journey, with continued support through a dedicated online group led by Emma, allowing connection, accountability and community to grow long after the weekend ends. Those who wish will also be invited to complete the journey with a closing celebration retreat.

(Choosing the ongoing 12 week online support and closing retreat in September is optional, you can attend the 2 day June retreat if you prefer).

With only 10 places available, this retreat is intentionally small, spacious and personal – creating a safe, supportive container for creative renewal, connection and transformation.

Places are limited. Early booking is recommended.
