Inspired by the delicate cracks in the glaze at the original central fireplace at BLOCK cafe at The Royal William Yard.
BLOCK have welcomed me to be the artist in residence at RWY a community buzzing with creative culture, business, history and urban regeneration designed by Urban Splash.
This piece is inspired by the warmth, the vital light and heat of the hearth and the stories that get told around it. Fires bring connection and connection brings community and this fire place at Royal William Yard would be central to hundreds of years of history must have seen so many people, heard so many stories, witness to so much and the small cracks lacing the glaze are testament to the times past and the legacy of this building and it’s inhabitants.
